I'm a guitarist but I don't own an acoustic guitar. How do I get RealGuitar to play a simple strumming pattern (e.g. Eagle-y) for a chord sequence of my choosing? Thanks, |

Skyline,
Please refer to RealGuitar Manual, pp. 96-97 Creating Custom Patterns, Stroke Map sections
Here is video tutorial:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfYbE7bBSnI
Also you can use Song mode window to insert chord changes and use Pattern Library patterns, or use custom patterns from MID track (don't forget to activate/press Track button).

Thanks.
I've watched the video and I'm sorry, it doesn't seem to point me in the direction I'm looking for. In my DAw's piano roll view, I've found from the chord map how to indicate different combinations of keys to obtain each chord I want but I can't see how to load/create? the strumming pattern I want. E.g. I'm looking for a simple Eagles-type 'Lyin' Eyes' strum.
In my DAW (Sonar Platinum) my piano roll only goes down as far as C0. So I can't use the articulations, etc. below that?
Many thanks! _________________ Cakewalk by BandLab

Skyline,
1. In RealGuitar we used Cubase/Logic note octave numbers (base note is C '-2'), while Sonar by default has C '0' .
In Sonar go to Edit/Preferences/Customization -> Display window and set Base Octave For Pitches to '0'.
2. Old Sonars allowed to easily import Instrument Definitons file allowing you to see RealGuitar Stroke Names (of pattern notes) in Piano Roll view on the left part (instead of key prints).
Shown on the picture in RealGuitar 5 Manual, page 97.
You can find RealGuitar.ins file in RealGuitar Installation folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\MusicLab\RealGuitar 5 by default). Try to import it to Sonar Instruments, though unfortunately I didn't manage to do that in Sonar Platinum:-(

Thanks Sergey.
I imported the RealGuitar.ins ok into Sonar Platinum:
- Preferences
- MIDI Instruments
- Define button
- Import button
- Navigate to RealGuitar.ins
- Close

Congrats, you were lucky to do that!
Great, that latest Sonar supports older great features!
BTW, Cakewalk is the only DAW allowing to name notes in Piano Roll view leaving note length view (on contrary to drum maps realized in Cubase visualizing note names, but showing diamonds instead of note bars, that you can't edit and view in duration).

John,
1 through 22 notes are real Stroke notes that will be translated by the engine as pattern notes producing appropriate strums/string picks.
Other higher notes are accidentally included in the Instrument Definitions (never seen them before).
BTW, notes higher 111 number should show the Strokes produced by the Guitar Hero controller in case you use it with Joystick mode.

Hi Sergey
I filled in text for keys 23-28 from the table on page 134 of the manual - are these wrong? I also put in the note names above those. I found how to do this and was trying to fill them all in, but I can't find descriptors for 29-39.

John,
No need to fill 23-28 which are automation names, that can't be used as keys, but work as VST or MIDI CC (Continuous Controllers) automatons to control/change various parameters.
Also no need to fill 29-39 notes - they are simply Repeat zone keys.
