Hi,

I am evaluating a demo version of RealGuitar 5. The RealGuitar seems pretty similar to Toontrack EzKeys, where I can drag my song into the track and it will export the pattern and the chord progression. However, In RealGuitar, when I drag patterns from the song into a track in Logic Pro X the pattern is exported but the chords progression is not exported. Is it it supposed to be this way or I am missing something here?
Thank you in advance for your help!

almur,

1. That's supposed to be.

You can drag out Pattern track to edit pattern notes in detail in a MIDI track (don't forget to activate the Track button in the lower part of Song mode window), but chord progression is better editable within Song track.

Also note, that RealGuitar Song mode pattern-chord technology is quite different from EZKeys system.

2. In case you want to use the whole Song part with any third party synth you can export it as MIDI file - click the Down Arrow button in the lower part of Song mode window and select 'Export Song as MIDI file' in popup menu.

Regards,
Sergey

Thank you Sergey,

When I drag exported song midi file back into the RealGuitar track it sounds very different from original song. Is it supposed to be like this?

almur,

Yes, it will sound worse when played back in Solo mode. Exported MIDI file includes only bare MIDI notes lacking string/fret information, mutes, etc. Not intended to use that way.

Sergey

Ok, I see. But here is what I want to do. Create a song in RealGuitar then use other guitar from other plugin to play the song.
Is it possible to do?
Thank you,

As I wrote, it is possible, but the sound will not be same as you hear within RG Song mode.

Sergey

You can set RealGuitarVST to Setup > Output Mode (Audio, Both, Midi) output to MIDI then send that to your other VST Instrument track.
Or you can send the midi out from RGVST Pattern Chords mode to another track with RGVST set on Solo mode, on that track you can add keyswitches to add any articulation to the patterns, now you can send the midi out from that to your Virtual Instrument.
There is also an option to save chords as midi markers in the midi file as most DAWs will show these in the track.

Thank you for your suggestion. I tried and it does not work. I set output to midi in RGVST and send it to other VST, but there is no sound. Seems midi does not go to other VST for some reason, or maybe I am doing something wrong. If I play a note on RGVST with midi controller the midi does go to other vst, but if I play a pattern in RGVST it does not produce any sound.
I send midi using cables in MIDI Environment in Logic Pro X. Is it correct?

almur,

Unfortunately Logic doesn't support MIDI Out from AU instrument.

Sergey

In MiniHost load RealGuitar and connect it's midi out to piz midiOut or to another RealGuitar then your Virtual Instrument.
https://www.thepiz.org/plugins/?p=midiOut

Green is the Midi, Yellow Audio.

Or just use Reaper it's free to try n try n try.....

Thank you! The MiniHost seems like a cool tool but unfortunately it does not work with Logic. I guess I have to try other DAW.

REAPER will do it all, it's free to try n try n try... and you won't need MiniHost.

Thank you. I finally figured out how to use MiniHost in Logic. I have another unrelated question. I am comparing RealGuitar to Elya Efimov Strum.
Can I program different strumming pattern for each bar of the song?
Thank you in advance!

Yes, just drag the pattern into the DAW track and set RealGuitar to Pattern > Chords > Track (the track button is under the pattern at the bottom)

I remember now I had MiniHost in Logic: https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=285&t=479779
RapidComposer is very good as a Standalone or VST.
You can convert any patterns to a Relative Phrase that will fit automatically to any chord/scale.
So with RealGuitar in MIDI Solo mode you can send any chord/pattern to it from RapidComposer.
You can save all the RealGuitar keyswitches to the Phrases also: https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=285&t=479776
So it will play Phrase patterns with keyswitches over any chord/scale by simply dropping the phrase anywhere over the chord track.
