Hi Sergey
I really do enjoy playing Realstrat using my "red star" strat- like controller and am shopping online for a backup guitar in case this one breaks.
Question : i see the one that you use in your demo video, the "sunburst"
For ps3 however I also see a similar model called "red octane" for ps 2 which ships with a ps 2 receiver dongle.( not usb)
Assuming i have the proper USB dongle, will either of these similar looking controllers work or should i limit my search to the ps 3 version?

goofparade,

Unfortunately we haven't tested for PS 2 controllers.
Don't remember details, but smth was wrong with them when we started - so we worked with PS3 versions, and Xbox as well (the one used on video), but note, that Xbox controller needs optional USB receiver and third-party free driver on Mac

Regards,
Sergey

Hi Sergey,

Well I went ahead and purchased a second guitar controller as well as another USB dongle because I wanted a backup system in case my main one breaks. I can't seem to get this working though...

This is what I bought: Red Octane wireless controller guitar for PS3
Red Octane wireless controller(dongle) for PC

The guitar is sunburst and looks identical to the one on your videos.
The dongle came from china via Ebay and blinks, awaiting to lock on to the guitar controller but never does. (guitar lights blink too)

Question: do I need a driver for this set up? Should I find a different dongle?

I really like the feel of this sunburst strummer, it's quieter and the starpower seems to have very smooth action. I would love to get this going. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

thanks!

edit: my guitar hero "band hero" usb dongle doesn't work with this new guitar, only my other "red Star" model.

Regards,
Sergey

Hi Sergey,

I pushed the same button as I do with my "red star", the clear button at the center of the 4 way switch. It has a playstation logo on it.

Is it the one you are refering to?

Best,

Marc

Marc,

Yes, that's correct. I confused with Xbox guitars.

So I think the receiver/dongle is wrong.
PS3 guitar should have its native receiver

Sergey

Hi Sergey,

I received my ps3 dongle ( red octane) to go with my sunburst red octane ps3 guitar controller but still cant get them to work. They both blink, awaiting to lock on but never do. When i switch back to my "red star" controller and activision dongle, it all works fine...

Any other suggestion as how to get the red octane sunburst with red octane receiver dongle going?

Ive invested a fair amount now on this controller and dongle, but to no avail.

Best,

Marc

Marc,

Unfortunately can't be of much help.
We got dozen PS3 guitars bundled with their own receivers - all worked fine.

Did you press connect button on the dongle first?

You may send us the picture of your dongle and its label to have a close look to:

Dear Sergey,

I am currently placing the palm of my hand right into my face...

HOW could I miss the button on the dongle??? (other than the fact that it looks and doubles as a light) I had no idea. :)

Once again you helped me with the obvious! Thanks so much, it works perfectly and I do like the smoother action on this set up better than the "red Star" controller.

thanks a million,

YOU DA MAN!!

best,

Marc
