Hi-
I can't get DTPD to work correctly in SONAR 7.0.1. I can only hear sound from it when I bring up the DTPD GUI; when I put the focus back on SONAR, I hear nothing through DTPD. I have it inserted as a VSTi, and the routing looks correct.
Also, I want to route it out to my MIDI via my MOTU Ultralite interface, but when I select it it says "Can't open output port".
TIA-

Susan,
Just checked - DTPD works as expected in Sonar 7.0.
What sampler/synth you load to DT?

Hi Sergey-
The one it came up with automatically was Session Drummer 2. I want to route it to my external synth (Motif), but when I try I get the MIDI port error I mentioned above.
Thanks-

Susan,
DTPD works fine here on our system both in Sonar 7:
- loads Session Drummer2 and plays with/without focus on its window
- plays from inside Sonar to MIDI output port checked in Sonar MIDI devices window
and standalone:
- plays to selected MIDI Output port to external synth
Do you have problem with outputting MIDI from DTPD standalone or running it in Sonar?

Hi Sergey-
The problem is in SONAR. I want to route the DTPD output to my external synth (Motif). I've tried using DTPD as the input for the MIDI track -- no sound. When I select the Ultralite (my MIDI interface) as the Out Port in DTPD, I get the message "Can't load Output port" (from DTPD).
I've made sure that "Enable MIDI Output" is checked when I insert DTPD.
It works fine with eg. Session Drummer 2 now, so it's just the external synth problem. The Motif plays fine with any other MIDI input source.
Thanks-
-Susan
EDIT: BTW, I can select the Ultralite as the DTPD Out Port in standalone mode with no problems. |

Susan,
1. 'No sound when focus changes' - in Sonar go to Options-> Audio->Advanced and uncheck 'Share Drivers With Other Programs'
2. Don't check MIDI Out for DT in Sonar DXi Synth Options dialog of Synth Rack - that may cause crash. DT should send MIDI directly to MIDI outport assigned in Sonar MIDI Devices

Hi Sergey-
>>DT should send MIDI directly to MIDI outport assigned in Sonar MIDI Devices <<
The Ultralite is one of my assigned MIDI Output devices in SONAR, but I also have a Tranzport and a BCR2000.
I've also tried using MIDI Omni as the input on the Motif track, but no matter what I don't get the MIDI output from DT to go to it.
Also, what should I set the DT output to in its GUI, since it won't let me select the Ultralite?
Thanks-

Susan,
Try the following:
- drag drum pattern from SlicyDrummer to any Sonar MIDI track
- output this track to MIDI out port and start Sonar to play the pattern directly from Sonar to your Motif, to check if Sonar sends MIDI correctly without DT
- report the result

Hi Sergey-
>>Try the following:
Yes, this works fine. I've never had trouble sending MIDI out from SONAR to my Motif. I do it all the time! It's only DT I'm having a problem with.
Thanks-

Susan,
<Also, what should I set the DT output to in its GUI, since it won't let me select the Ultralite?>
In DT Out Port->MIDI you must select the same outport that works in Sonar for MIDI track
But as you say that doesn't work for DT both in Sonar and standalone.
We'll talk about that after Monday (after our holidays)

No, I said it does work in standalone -- I can select the Ultralite as the MIDI out port, no problem. It's only in SONAR that I get the "Can't select Out Port" message.
Thanks-

Susan,
We think that your Ultralite MIDI driver is maybe not multi-client, so can't share its MIDI out port from inside Sonar

What do you recommend for MIDI multi-client? I've researched this some, and there's a link that points to a multi-client MIDI solution on your web site, but the link takes me directly to the MIDI OverLan page.
It doesn't look like Hubi's LoopBack works in XP. Is MIDI Yoke the (an) answer?
I'd really like to be able to use DTPD in SONAR!
Thanks again-
