J van E,
Very COOL!
One more great complete song - I start thinking that RealStrat really makes you a professional song writer/arranger/singer

Yup, his progress is frightening. I think maybe he has a team of musicians that he's not telling us about working with him in his studio
Nice work J. Do you use a condensor or dynamic mic? |

And thx again!
About the progress: I've been writing songs since the seventies, so I have done some nice things before (if I may say so myself), but I have to say I have been making a lot of progress the last two months when it comes to recording music on the computer. And (as I've said before) RS really helped a lot!!!
About the mic: believe it or not, but I use a dynamic Philips mic that I bought in the kind of shop where they also sell refrigirators and washing machines and costed about 18,- euro... You can get if even cheaper now...
Apart from that...: I plug it straight into my Creative X-Fi Gamer soundcard! I do all this on the (totally un-isolated or prepared) attic, besides the central heater and the bedroom of my son (I recorded all the vocals of Brother while he was playing the XBox 360 there) on a computer that is also used by my daughter for MSN and by myself for games (although lately I haven't been playing games anymore: I'm all into music now!)
As I said more often (like on the Sonar forum): in the end it's about the music, not about the gear.
At the Sonar forum (and probably anywhere else where music is taken seriously) they laugh about you when you use cheap gear like I do, but until now no one laughed about my songs: on the contrary. When the opportunity arrises, I will share this information over there too.
P.S. I have to say the vocals are helped a lot by the excellent VC-64 plugin that comes with Sonar: the clean recording isn't that good, but hey, what else would you expect with such a cheap mic. And I am sure with a better mic, things will sound better too. But the thing is that you don't need expensive gear to produce (appparently) nice songs! |

Yeah, the dynamic mics are great for filtering out ambient noise (hence their use onstage). And it is amazing how the gear-snobs come out of the woodwork in the Sonar forums when someone asks for help with their creative card. For someone who does mostly midi-synth work, the later Audigy and X-Fi cards are fine. |
