The Canadian dollar is 0.997 US right now. Meaning it's worth MORe than the US dollar. So, Why is Musiclab charging $224.61 CAD for the crossgrade download wjen it's only $199 US? It just seems a little excessive. I'm good to go to buy it, but was surprised at the price online. _________________ Matt

I agree completely, Matt. It's not so much the small amount of money this time either, it's the principle. And it's happening with other transactions as well through both PayPal and ShareIt. When US dollars are supposedly being converted into Canadian dollars the exchange rate can be up to 10-15% below what it is at a bank, and it's just not right. We're already being ripped off by paying $12.99 (plus tax) for a book in Canadian dollars that is $8.99 US and while promises have been made, it's been a long time now and still nothing has been done.
And what can we do as customers? If we wanted RealStrat, for example, there was no option, but to pay the amount shown on the screen. No shipping charges were involved, so why weren't we charged basically the same as US customers? I don't know who is to 'blame' in this case...perhaps it's the 'middle men' fudging on the exchange rate to put a few more dollars into their own pockets, but it adds a bit of a 'sour taste' to the transaction. Like you, I was very aware of it this time. The product itself is superb, but the transaction to purchase it was not. |

Well, here is the response I received from Music Lab
"We do not take payments directly, our payment processor ShareIt does. They also set conversion rates... If you are going to pay by
credit card, I suggest you to pay in USD and during transaction your bank will convert USD to CAD using bank's rate."
So, I did as suggested, however, I am sure Visa will charge more than they should as well. There is always a charge for the conversion service.
Oh well, at least the product is worth the price. Lord knows I;ve waisted more money on software that didn't come close to Real Strat's usefulness _________________ Matt

No, it actually means the Canadian dollar is still worth LESS than the US dollar -- but not by very much.
When the Canadian dollar is above 1.0, then it'll be worth MORE. |

Not to nitpick, but the Canadian dollar was indeed worth MORE than the US dollar both yesterday and today for periods of time. We all know it fluctuates so the rate quoted at 8 AM may not be the same as at 10 AM. But that is not our point...we're not talking about minor differences and mild fluctuations, we're discussing significant differences. I kind of figured it is a way by ShareIt and PayPal to give themselves a few extra dollars each time. I mean, "what can these customers do about it, right?". In any case, whatever the reason, we don't have to like it, it's not right, and there needs to be a way around it that is accetable to all. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it! |

Oops! Yes, you are right, I typed it backwards At the time I wrote it, it was indeed worth more than the US dollar, I just never know which way to show it.
Still doesn't change the point. It is virtually even money and still we are charged %12. Not cool. _________________ Matt

Maybe MusicLab will take either gold or oil. Ask.

Hi folks,
I´d be curious to know if anyone could really select a different currency?
Over here, ShareIt always reverts to the standard currency of my country and I haven´t been able to chose something else. I would guess, this is because - as mentioned - some currencies are stronger than others and ShareIt doesn´t want to deal with that.
Cheers

I just bought RealStrat after long loooong deliberation as it suits my composing philosophy more than the competition, even if it's not my first choice of guitar (I hope they produce a LesPaul sampleset to plug into it someday).
So, it's 250 bucks US, plus the 10 or so bucks for the hard-copy (I figured what the heck, my CD burner is on the fritz anyways), so I was bracing myself for the Canadian conversion as I'm dirt-poor at the moment. It's been a very long time since I've ordered anything based on US dollars, and to be honest, I was pleasantly surprised that the grand-total was only 290 bucks. I'm assuming Share-it! even took a small cut from that.
Yeah, it may be a bit more than the current exchange-rate, but compared to not so long ago, I'm pleased. Then I think of the time and gas-money I'd have burned driving into Toronto to buy software and it's even sweeter. I'm not too crazy about using my credit card over the internet though (I have a phobia about that), but I guess I'd better get with the times.
I found it easy and painless....too painless; Now to get drunk, hide that credit card and forget where I hid it. Actually, maybe I'll install RealStrat first.
I agree about buying books up here though....what a burn!...grrr.
Cheers! |

Well, I received my bill on my VISA and the charge was 199.00 USD @ 1.0260% for a total of $204.18. So the advice MusicLab gave me was obviously sound.... pun intended
So, back to enjoying RealStrat! _________________ Matt
