Some demos from yet-another-beta-tester in the bunch. You know the first one already, but I post it again just for completenes sake. Sorry about that, but please enjoy anyway.
Here's a little snipped of mine from the US National Anthem, the final part to be precise. Please keep in mind I can play JACK SH*T on my keyboard, so this might sound a little bit akward and the beat is definitely wonky. I'm also not patriotic, as I'm German, but I like Jimmy Hendrix's version of the anthem, and it's just made for guitar. Some of my friends actually liked it, even if it was only for chuckles.
Studio Compyfox - USA National Anthem (Fox0red Mix) (0,67MB, mp3, 192kbit VBR - warning: could be loud)
Equipment used:
- Kurzweil K2000 Keyboard
- Cubase SX3
- Real Strat
- Insert: Line6 GearBox VST (Treadplate 2001 Patch, emulation of the Soldano 1993 Solo 100 Head amplifier mod for Marshall Amps)
- Send: Kjaerhus Classic Chorus, Lead Guitar Patch
- Send: Kjaerhus Classic Delay, Pingpong Patch, Adjusted
Keyswitches/Settings:
Pickup Settings - setup to -6, Fretboard Pickup
C0 - Feedback 5'
Modwheel - Vibrato (default setup)
Pitchbend - Pitching (default setup)
Aftertouch (from my Kurzweil) - dunno what it does, but it adds minor vibration?
The second audio demo I have for you is a powerchord pattern Those who're familiar with videogames might recognize the demo tune, as it's a patter from one of the battle themes from Final Fantasy 7 on Playstation.
This one is actually one of my better demos, especially since I have barely any time to work with RealStrat as school and work is taking it's fair chunk. I only used one keyswitch in this demo, and that is the footpedal for triggering an interval (power1). The song was recorded in one shot after I "trained" the pattern a bit, especially with the mutes.
You can find the demo's here:
Studio Compyfox - FF7 Fight Song (3,29MB, mp3, 192kbit VBR)
Studio Compyfox - FF7 Fight Song (clean version) (0,35MB, mp3, 192kbit VBR - for testing purposes)
Equipment used:
- Kurzweil K2000 Keyboard
- Cubase SX3
- Real Strat
- Insert: Line6 GearBox VST (Treadplate 2001 Patch, emulation of the Soldano 1993 Solo 100 Head amplifier mod for Marshall Amps)
- Send: Kjaerhus Classic Chorus, Lead Guitar Patch
- Send: Kjaerhus Classic Delay, Pingpong Patch, Adjusted
Keyswitches/Settings:
Pickup Settings - setup to +4, Middle/Bridge Pickup
Sustain Footpedal - Interval (Powerchord Mode 1)
F#6 - Mute Key (default setup, for fast powerchord play)
Modwheel - Vibrato (default setup)
Aftertouch (from my Kurzweil) - dunno what it does, but it adds minor vibration once again?
To be honest, I didn't like the bridge mutes for this kind of chordplay, and I kinda don't like that swinged out strings still prduce a loud burst at the end if you let go of the keyboad key (forgot to mention that in my feedback mail!!!). But well, it's dead simple to use and this new keyswitch mode has so much potential.
I hope you enjoy the demos, and the Musiclab crew should find an eMail with a report from me in the mailbox soon.

Very cool! This answers nearly all my remaining questions! Thanks a lot for this!

If I understand what you are saying, that 'loud burst' is adjustable. It can be removed completely. _________________ RealStrat and a '59 Bassman. |

Like... you press a chord on a keyboard, let then the guitar strings swing out (after like 20s) and then you let go of the chord. This is where the burst happens. Rather than that the keys are muted (like if you'd use your palm to mute the chord), it creates a burst as if you'd slap the strings while letting go of them.
The mute key also produces such sound like with RG2L the mute key, or slapping the body of the guitar. Maybe there's a solution to it, but I didn't find it yet.
And glad that I could help in a way, Helge. Just out of curiosity - what were your questions? (you can PM me in german if you want) |

Well, it's really only one question: Whether it's possible to do down-tuned metal-style powerchords (muted and open) with RS. And your example shows it's very possible, even great sounding!
It's not that I'm not also keen on the more intricate stuff that can be done with RS. I am, and I'm going to explore it. But right now, metal rhythm guitar is the thing I want the most. I'm seeking to replace Slayer2 in a new project I'm going to start shortly.

PS: Thanks for offering me to ask in German language. But as a German, I've got this compulsion to speak english at every opportunity _________________ iMac G5, Tascam 1082, Roland A-30, KLC, Akai MPD-16, PODxt Pro, T.C. VoiceWorks, Logic Pro 8, plus many colorful AUs

Hi Compyfox, I´ve read you used
"Modwheel - Vibrato (default setup)"
My problem is just that mentioned Modwheel, I couldn´t test it all so far because it doesn´t work or I´m doing something wrong maybe but usually that´s a default setup thing to use a vibrato with the modulation wheel so I can´t figure out why I can´t hear anything when I try to do so
.... did you play it "live" with midi-keyboard or how did you use the vibrato in your solo-guitar part? |

Well the dials on my Kurzweil aren't like the pitch/modwheel combination in the videos from Sergey. In sergey's video, the modwheel is when he's pressing the stick "upwards", while pitching is "left" or "right". On my keyboard, they're seperate and they're vertically alligned.
I recorded everything in Cubase SX3 in one shot (MIDI). The solo used a lot of vibrato. Always when I thought "oh... here the strings could sound a tad modulated", I turned up the modwheel and as soon as I played another note, I turned the modwheel down.
The other thing is, my keyboard also sends aftertouch. That means, if I press keys on my keyboard, the harder I press and the longer I stay on them, it's recording a so called "aftertouch". I didn't read the manual yet, but if I wasn't totally mistaken, it also added some minor modulation to the strings.
But everything else was really just the modwheel and at the end pitching. (the US anthem solo) |

Thanks compyfox for taking time. I tried as well using the mod wheel, but no reaction to hear and even not to see in the midi editor...though the midi activity is shown when "dialing" the modwheel for test...maybe that´s a local thing here with my M-Audio Keystation...I´ll install once again so this should work, cos I also would like to make use of some vibrato-effect when playing guitar parts, sounds nice in your example |

Well, if you're using Cubae, take a look into the settings whether or not *censored* data (or modwheel data) is filtered while recording. Meaning, you can twist and turn knobs, but jack happened after the recording. Modwheel should be MIDI CC#1 btw. |

|
|
|
Well I finally found a way how to use the vibrato in FL-Studio....if someone else might need this too here´s a little explanation:
1) When RealStrat is loaded, you click on the Fruity wrapper on the top left corner.
2) Select "Browse Parameters"
3) Browse to "MIDI CC#1 (Modulation Wheel)"
4) right-click and select "Link to controller", turn the modwheel
To use it in the Piano-roll simply select "Edit events" instead of "Link to controller" in step 4
Sounds great now I must say! |
