latency issues in HomeStudio

I am trying to use RealGuitar in HomeStudioXL2004 but I get some serious latency issues. Even though I have monitoring turned off within HS I still have a major delay from the time I press the keys to the guitar sound coming through my speakers. What's up?

Try any other soft synth (DXi or VSTi) in your HS if it also has the same latency. Maybe that depends on your audio configuration.
RealGuitar works without any additional latency in Sonar both as DXi and VSTi via DXi-VSTi Adapter.

I think my problem may be my soundcard. I am using the original onboard soundcard(Alegro 1988 I think). I am going out this week to purchase an M Audio 2496. Would this help?

Of course changing sound card to M audio should help a lot with latency problem.
