Any chance this product (or some other) will ever include transmitting audio over a fast lan connection? Is that a feasible thought? MIDI and audio in the same product would be great.
Thanks,

You asked all the way back in June, huh? Well, I've been thinking about it since May. Whatcha thinka that? Ha!
I noticed there's been no answer to your question or mine. That's not a good sign. There is plenty of evidence that it would be a great thing for computer music recording if someone can do it. These new Pentiums have network connections right on the motherboard, I believe. Imagine one recording host and several servers running soft samplers, synths and effects all connected by a LAN. Wow!

I'm not surprised that it hasn't been answered, nor indeed any software written to be able to do it. I did find something ages ago, but it was such high latency that it was unusable for musicians (like 2 seconds of latency!)
I make do with S/PDIF cables at the moment. Oh, and I was looking last year for this, it was only the new forum that I thought about posting it up. |

Gibson is working on this but it is still a few years away.
Its called Magic and it has almost zero latency.
32 channels of digital audio and “unlimited” MIDI.
For now it looks like MOL is the best solution.
From Gibson’s Magic site-
“MaGIC uses state-of-the-art technology to provide up to 32 channels of 32-bit bi-directional high-fidelity audio with sample rates up to 192 kHz. Data and control can be transported 30 to 30,000 times faster than MIDI. Added cable features include power for instruments, automatic clocking, and network synchronization.” |
