| I'm in my early 60s and arthritis has been slowing down my left hand fretting fingers for several years. It got to the point where I just can't play the fingerstyle instrumental guitar music that I wrote decades ago. I thought I'd never hear those songs again, and I'd never recorded them. Even after I got RealGuitar for my DAW (Cakewalk Sonar X1) I never once thought about trying fingerstyle music with it. I recently broke my arm and have been off work for about 6 weeks, so I've had lots of spare time. A couple weeks ago, I remembered my old fingerstyle songs and started entering one of them in Sonar, drawing in the MIDI notes, one note at a time, then editing the velocity, note durations and such. I played the MIDI track through RealGuitar set to "Acoustic::Steel Fingered" and was absolutely amazed. I had the biggest smile on my face because I was hearing my old song again. Wow. It took some time to finish the song, including tweaking it. For each note, I pictured how I used to finger it on a guitar, and how long each note sounded before I stopped it. Some notes rang out for awhile and some notes were cut off quickly because of pull-offs, hammer-ons, or simply needing that finger for another note. In the end, I had a perfect performance of that old song. What a blessing. Like I said, I thought I'd never hear my old songs again. I've now finished 2 of my fingerstyle songs. Thank you for a product that sounds so good that I can accomplish this. : ) |
