Computer 1 is running Cubase VST5.1 P4 Win2K
Computer 2 is running Gigastudio AMD18oo+ Win2K
The install on computer 2 went fine. The install on computer 1 appears to go well except that I can't see computer 2 when I browse for the connection. I followed the diections below except I substituted Cubase for sONAR.
I see computer 1 from computer 2 fine.
What could be causing the failed connection?
Configure Lan-Out 00 on "SONAR PC":
Open MIDIoverLAN+ configuration utility.
Open MIDI to LAN tab.
Check "Enable", "Use filter" boxes, "Set correspondent host by name" button, fill edit box with "GigaStudio PC" network name, set "Echo to:" to "--none--".
Click "OK" and reboot "SONAR PC".
Configure Lan-In 00 on "GigaStudio PC":
Open MIDIoverLAN configuration utility.
Open MIDI from LAN tab.
Check "Enable", "Use filter" boxes, "Set correspondent host by name" button, fill edit box with "SONAR PC" network name, set "Echo to:" to "--none--".
Click "OK" and reboot "GigaStudio PC".
Open MIDIoverLAN configuration utility once again.
Open MIDI from LAN tab and select "Lan-In 00" as current port (default). Note: "Incoming data" LED now must be dark red.
Invoke Sonar on "SONAR PC" and open "Options >> MIDI devices" menu dialog. Set Lan-Out 00 midi out port as active. Load song and set midi out port for tracks you wish to playback over LAN to "Lan-Out 00". Start playback... "Incoming data" LED on "GigaStudio PC" now must blink.
Close MIDIoverLAN configuration utility on "GigaStudio PC" and stop playback on "SONAR PC".
Start GigaStudio on your "GigaStudio PC". Be sure that "LAN-In 00" MIDI device is active (configure GigaStudio if it's not so) and MIDI THRU to any MIDI OUT port is enable.
Start playback on your "SONAR PC". You will be able to hear your song sounding on "GigaStudio PC" from your "SONAR PC".
The configuration described above is just a simple example. Similarly you could configure another LAN device (01, 02, etc.).
Note that in such a setup MIDI latency and jitter is noticeably lower, than when using hardware equipment. This can be easily checked by downloading the MIDIoverLAN+ demo.
The new MIDIoverLAN+ has everything to make the work with MIDI software much easier than ever before! |
