Hi,
just downloaded the demo for MidiOverLan+ and it's great, especially the MIDI timing is really smooth.
The only problem I have is that on the receiving PC I only hear something, when I have the control panel for MidiOverLan open and have selected the 'Midi From LAN' tab. If I switch to any other tab or close the control panel applet I hear nothing.
Any clues ?
Thanks

How do you have your setup?
For me, Gigastudio gies me a MIDI input to which I can assign the recieved data. But for my XG card I have to use the filter and/or MIDI connection centre to pipe the MIDI data through to the MIDI output. |

I have enabled one LanIn port and echo that to the MidiOutput which represents my sound card (Audigy2). It works fine as long as I have the MidiFromLAN tab open in the control panel applet for MidiOverLan+, if I select another tab from the dialog or close it my sound card stops playing.
As if the dialog starts some kind of thread that is necessary for the midi forwarding to work and stops it after it closes. Hmmm...
The whole thing is Windows XP with service pack 1.
It would be a pity if the problem couldn't be solved, becaue MidiOverLan+ is the only program I ever found for the purpose that works timing wise. I'd like to buy it but am reluctant due to this problem.

Actually control panel config utility makes "echo" (if configured) because it opens and keeps lan-in-port opened.
Whenever you select another tab LAN lan-in-port is closed and
"echo" disappears. That's ok.
To make "echo" working without using control panel config utility you just
need to open lan-in-port (with ech configured) by any software.
Every time Lan-in-port is opened its "echo" setting is activated.
No way to activate "echo" without opening lan-in-port for which this "echo" is configured. |

Thanks Alexander,
that's it, problem solved ! I already bought the program now thanks to your assistance.
I wrote myself a little program that does nothing but keep the LanInPort open (doesn't even show a window) and run that at Windows startup and now the echo works fine.
Nevertheless, a little 'Always echo' checkbox would be a nice feature in a future version of MidiOverLan if you want to use that great program to 'forward' a midi output to a remote PCs soundcard or an external synth connected to a remote computer.
Thanks again !

Alexander,
Dies this also mean that I have to open up the MIDI-TO-LAN config screen if I want to connect to my MDI device from Cubase running on the same machine?
And The same for the machine which has the MIDI device connected?

What I really could do with is a working example of a correct setup using machine A having a MIDI device connected to it and machine B using CB SX . Machine B will need to receive the MIDI info coming through machine A.
What screens do I need to keep active (apart from CB) on both machines?
That would really help,
