Hi Friends,

It seems that there are alot of good patterns that come with the RS/RG programs, but I'm sure there are also some good ones that our user friends have created themselves that may be more diverse than the stock patterns that are included with RS & RG.

Just wondering whether or not anyone is making their own user patterns possibly available for download?
Thanks!

Musikman,

The power of patterns included with RG/RS resides in the dynamics control that you can aply to them through the pitch/mod and velocity switch with a midi keyboard. This is called realtime arranging.
The oposite is a boring pattern sounding along the time with the same dynamics.
Operating with the mouse is so dificult and don't have much sense. Think that RG/RS was progammed having in mind that you can play with it in realtime, having a lot of fun!

The best way to understand what you can do is viewing the videos about that in http://www.musiclab.com/downloads/listen/ and find the following videos:

RealGuitar Pattern Country video demo
RealGuitar Pattern Strumming video demo
RealGuitar Pattern Funk video demo

The videos are divided in two sections: the first showing the power of control you can aply over the pattern, the second where Sergey explains how it works. See them and try to do the same or something similar.

Then you are prepared to construct your own patterns, using the included ones as starting point, modifying the strokes to obtain the desired "feeling".

Please study the manual to see the complete description of the available strokes to construct your own patterns and remember: a pattern is a descrition about what strings are played along time and how are played together(up/down, muted), not the notes you play. Then you must have to aply dynamics to obtain sweet or strong passages.

Have fun!

Hi Jaleo

Thanks for the info. I've not been able to play the videos from the website after I've downloaded them. For some reason I think the format that is used is causing a conflict with my player or something like that. I'm still working on it so hopefully I'll soon be able to view those videos. (see my post in RG forum) Thanks again, and (keep me posted on that RS instructional when you hear any updates!)

Is so rare that you can't play the videos. Download the Divx player.

Yeah, I noticed there was a note on the video download page that you need DivX 5 or later to view the videos. Looks like it's free for 15 days but is $20.00 after that. I'll probably end up buying it next week. In the meantime I was able to view them on YouTube....thanks Jaleo! I just have to get the hang of the velocity and other switches, and still not sure which screen to use to edit patterns, whether I do it with sonar or directly in the pattern mgr window. I'm reading about it now in the manual, but it has very basic instructions though.

Bad thing about having such an old version of Sonar (2.2) is that it supports DnD (drag/drop)audio, but doesn't support DnD midi, nor can I "import" a standard midi file to a track, it will only import audio. So I'm stuck with playing and recording everything live with pattern mgr, other than manually entering notes in the piano roll view of sonar. Waiting to hear from sonar support on the DnD midi, seems like such a simple task, but again, very old version may not allow me to.
